Cerilon GTL North Dakota Project: A first for North America

Thank you to Lisa Kopochinski for her thoughtful article about our foundational gas-to-liquids (GTL) project in the spring edition of the Bakkan Energy Report.

“This multi-billion project will deliver environmentally responsible energy products, while contributing to the economy, creating employment opportunities and reducing dependency on imports.

Cerilon GTL North Dakota will turn natural gas that may have otherwise been flared or wasted into useful, high-value liquids, including ultra-low sulfur diesel, Naphtha and Group III+ base oils. These products will help to satisfy demand in the state, reducing reliance on imports. It’s the first larger scale, natural-gas fed GTL facility to be built in North America and will also feature carbon capture and storage, making this 24,000-barrel-per-day facility the first of its kind in the world.

“GTL products are high quality and burn more efficiently which reduces emissions from their use,” says Opperman. “These properties, especially when combined with capturing and storing the CO2 generated in the process, make our products unique, valuable and part of a lower-carbon future.”
